I already have a handheld device,
can I use this for Inspector Sherlock?
Yes, If you have a Palm device or Pocket PC device
that has an AppForge booster
available for your particular model, then install
the appropriate booster and then install Inspector
Sherlock on the handheld.
What
Handheld Device (PDA) should I buy?
Inspector Sherlock supports any Palm device or
Pocket PC device that has an AppForge
booster available. Check www.appforge.com
to make sure a booster exists for the handheld
you wish to buy. For more

What
is Sherlock Trust Manager?
Sherlock Trust Manager is required to integrate
with INSPECTOR SHERLOCK as it Exports the data
to the handheld for revision and then returns
it to the Sherlock system for reporting and property
inspection history. Click

Is
Inspector Sherlock included in my normal Sherlock
licensing?
No, there is a one off cost for Inspector Sherlock,
call us for more information.
What
is AppForge Booster™?
Booster is an operating system extension that
enhances the functionality of handheld devices
which is a necessary part of Inspector Sherlock.
Booster allows sherlock to offer a system that
can work on many, many handheld devices including
Palm / CE and even mobile phones. Always check
www.appforge.com
to make sure a booster exists for your new handheld.
Then you know Inspector Sherlock will run.
Can
I have several handheld computers with Inspector
Sherlock installed on each one?
You can have a combination of PALM and CE and
phones which can run Inspector Sherlock at your
office. You could switch from one platform to
the other and this is not a problem. The data
we transfer between Sherlock Trust Manager and
the Handheld unit was designed to allow easy change
over.
Can
I use Inspection Sherlock on another Trust Accounting
System?
Sorry no. The database design is proprietary technology
and unique to Sherlock Software. If you need a
new Trust System we can supply this too !

How
do I install Inspector Sherlock on a Pocket PC
/ CE handheld device?
To get Inspector Sherlock running you will first
have to install the AppForge Booster application.
You can download the Booster executable for your
designated handheld at no charge from the AppForge
website (www.appforge.com).
Once the files are installed, you can use the
"Install Booster To Device" MobileVB
menu item to port Booster to a device. (Pocket
PC's may not need this booster software, install
Inspector Sherlock first and see if it runs).
Once you have the Inspector Sherlock installer
file (‘InspSherlockPPCInstall.exe' ) downloaded
to your computer, make sure your handheld device
is in it' s cradle and connected to the computer.
Double click the ‘InspSherlockPPCInstall.exe'
file to start the installation.
You will now see the introductory screen, click
the Next button. Then the Licence agreement screen
will be available, read the agreement and click
on ‘I agree' section if you do agree. Then
click the Finish button.
Then a dialogue box will pop up asking if you
want to install in the default directory, Click
on the YES button. Now you will see the files
installing by the progress bar. Once it has finished,
a new dialogue box will appear asking you to check
the handheld device and see if any additional
steps are needed.
In most cases you won' t need to do any further
steps but look at your handheld to check, if further
steps are required then follow those steps. Once
the files are installed onto the handheld then
you can go back to your computer and click OK
on the dialogue box that is still there.
It is now installed and you can start using Inspector
Sherlock.
*Note: Inspector Sherlock needs the Sherlock
Trust Accounting System for Importing and
Exporting it' s data. It will not work will other
software packages.

How
do I install Inspector Sherlock on a Palm handheld
device?
To get Inspector Sherlock running you will first
have to install the AppForge Booster application.
You can download the Booster executable for your
designated handheld at no charge from the AppForge
website (www.appforge.com).
Once the files are installed, you can use the
"Install Booster To Device" MobileVB
menu item to port Booster to a device.
Next is the Conduit, a conduit is what Palm handhelds
need for synchronising Inspector Sherlock data.
Now you need to download and install the Conduit
(SETUP_CONDUIT_PALM.EXE). You can download this
to your desktop and run it as a normal applicaton.
Once you have the Inspector Sherlock installer
file (Insp_Sherlock-Install.prc) downloaded to
your computer, copy the Insp_Sherlock-Install.prc
file into your Palm \add-on directory/folder.
Open your Palm desktop application and click
on the Install button. A new dialog box will pop
up and you can click on the Add button. Now look
for the Insp_Sherlock-Install.prc file in the
\add-on directory and double click on it. Now
click on the Done button.
The next time you synchronise your Palm with
your desktop computer the Inspector Sherlock application
will be installed and ready to use.

How
do I use Inspector Sherlock?
STEP 1.
Setting up a Sherlock Trust Manager login for
Inspector Sherlock.
Firstly in Sherlock Trust Manager, log in as Administrator
and select your user login name from the list
(top
left), now go to the User Preferences tab and
set the ‘Palm Export / Import’ path.
This is the folder/directory on
your desktop computer that your handheld device
synchronises
with. For Example: C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My
Documents\Pocket_DELL My Documents (for Pocket
PC’s) or
C:\Palm\YourName\InspectorSherlock\ (for Palm
devices). Now
select the Portable Device option (i.e. -Palm-
or CE/PPC). Save
your User options and exit Administrator. (Note:
You only need to do
this once).
STEP 2.
Exporting the inspection data to your handheld.
Then in Sherlock Trust Manager log in as a normal
user, select 'Client Event Diary’ button
(toward the top left of the Sherlock screen).
STEP 3.
Click on the ‘Add Inspection’ button
to bring up the ‘Property Inspection Details’
window.
STEP 4.
Select a property code from the list and click
on the ‘Accept LEDGER Code’ button.
STEP 5.
Now click on the ‘Add’ button, this
will show the Inspection type window and you can
select INGOING, ROUTINE or OUTGOING as the inspection
type.
STEP 6.
If you have a previous inspection for that tenant
you will be asked if you want to use the last
inspections Ingoing or Outgoing data.
STEP 7.
You will now see the ‘Schedule Inspection
Date & Time’ window which allows you
to change the date, time and person you are assigning
the inspection to.
Click on the ‘Save/Accept’ button
to close the window.
STEP 8.
Now the ‘Inspector Sherlock Manual Data
entry window will appear, here you can add any
comment if needed, or add further rooms if needed
by right mouse clicking the rooms list on the
right and selecting ‘Add a ROOM’ and
then click the ‘Save / Exit’ button.
STEP 9.
Then click on the ‘Save / Exit’ button
on the window that if left open.
You can repeat steps 2 to 9 for each property
you want export to your handheld device for inspections.
STEP 10.
You should now see your inspection/s that you
created in the list. TICK / TAG that Inspection
and then click on the ‘Export Inspection’
button. If your handheld device doesn't synchronise
automatically, synchronise it now.
STEP 11.
You should then be asked if you want to print
an audit transaction report showing you the current
exported inspections. You can click Yes or No
to this. Then you will see a dialog box indicating
that the Export of inspection/s were successful.
STEP 12.
Complete the inspection on the handheld.
To actually do the inspection, open Inspector
Sherlock on your handheld device. You will then
see a list of properties that you have exported
from Sherlock Trust Manager. Select one of the
properties by highlighting the property and then
selecting Proceed. You will now see the Tenant,
Property and Owner details listed. On the Property
details, select the Room drop down menu arrow
and select the room you are now inspecting. This
will load room
items list to which you can then press Y (for
Yes) or N (for No) in the corresponding condition
columns (Clean, Undamaged and Working). If you
would like to add a comment about the particular
item, select the 'C' in the far column to bring
up the comments list. Once you have completed
the items you require select Save to return to
the Room list. Repeat this procedure for all the
rooms you need and then select the Save or Finalise
to return back to the Property list. If you are
finished then you select Close which will close
the Inspector Sherlock Application.
When you are back at your desktop computer, dock
your handheld and resynchronise. This will copy
the updated inspection data to your synchronises
folder/directory.
STEP 13.
Import the Inspection data back into Sherock Trust
Manager.
Now go back into the Sherlock Trust Manager program,
click on the 'Client Event Diary’ button
(toward the top left of the Sherlock screen) and
click on the ‘Import Inspection’ button.
STEP
14.
To Preview or Print the inspection data, click
once on the inspection you require that appears
in the list and press the ‘Print/Preview
Inspection Report’ button. Your inspection
report should now be complete.
If you require to add or modify your inspection
report, you can go to the ‘Modify Inspection’
button and this will allow you to make the changes
you need to the inspection report before you print
it out.
